Reflection

The Full Story

My first step in beginning my e-portfolio was to find an internship that I was potentially interested in. I found one with the Law Office of Anabelle Dias that I thought would be a good fit. This internship is a legal criminal defense internship that would involve me participating in legal research, working on argument development, preparing motions, meeting with clients, meeting with prosecutors, attending depositions and attending court. It is for either summer, fall, or both which is perfect since I will be studying abroad all summer. Though this internship is unpaid, the hours are super flexible, and it would allow me to balance school, my other jobs, and this experience.

After choosing my internship, I went and began working on my cover letter and resume. I decided to do a visually pleasing resume that differs from the typical black and white one, and I really am pleased with how it turned out. Though different than the typical resume, it still looks very professional and clean cut. I specifically chose to use more neutral colors so that it would give off a more professional energy that would be needed for a legal internship. Writing my cover letter was difficult, but I was able to do it effectively. I had written a cover letter before for a different job application, so I was familiar with the process. I was able to use resources from the FSU Career Center to help me with writing the letter. In my cover letter, I addressed my experience with Club Downunder as well as my membership in the Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity. I tried to convey how these experiences have taught me skills such as problem-solving and delegating. I also expressed how PAD has helped grow my passion for working in the legal field and making a difference.

With regard to my actual e-portfolio, I had previously made one before and had a pre-existing website, however I was displeased with how it looked and knew I had to change it significantly. One of the first things I did was change and add pages to better fit the needs of this project. I wanted to continue with the stream-lined, professional look so I aimed to keep things rather simple. After changing the names, I went in and changed many small details and updated the information I had written on the website. I then began going through each page and created a better layout that suited my needs. I wanted each page to feel elegant, with the most important information right in front of you. That is why I broke everything up into its own page. I also stuck with the neutral theme that I thought would fit the internship I am going for and also serve a reflection of me, showing that I am grounded and analytical. Afterwards, I went through and found assignments that I believed would best reflect my skills and knowledge relevant to the internship. Afterwards, I uploaded all of the documents into each pdf window and wrote small summaries on everything. Overall, I am pretty proud of this webpage, and I feel that it is a good representation of who I am and what my goals are!
